The other day, while my dad and I were at Walmart, my eye caught a heading on the cover of a one of those women’s magazine. It was claiming to have an article revealing all the secrets needed to look your best during the “nearly-naked season” – summer. The world uses summer as an excuse to strip down to the bare essentials and become as 'sexy' possible. But a girl who dresses with modest, feminine, and dignified in style sends the message that she values those around her and wants to reflect the beauty of Christ in her appearance, not the empty allure of this world.
While it’s tempting to succumb to both the cultural pressure and the heat, and let down our modesty guard during this time of year, there are plenty of ways to keep cool, look beautiful, and protect your feminine mystery in summertime! God calls us to be a bright torch in a pitch-black room, and it makes me sad to say this, but most Christians have their torches lit dimly. We are called to shine, so shine on!
It should never our aim to be “trendy,” and in fact, we should not allow ourselves to be ruled by the trends of our culture. It’s a matter of working with what’s available in the stores (modest fashions are terribly hard to find!) and working them with practical layering ideas to transform current styles into ones of dignity, beauty, and a heavenly guard over a girl’s body and appearance.
I love quotes, and the quote "Why fit in when you were born to stand out?" has long since been my favorite one, but what does it mean?
To the world, I've noticed, that "standing out" is "fitting in" with everyone else. Girls, Is easy to try to stand out by dressing loud and acting boisterous when really, it makes the people who see you treat you like trash because of your actions.
If you are of a gentle and quiet spirit, people will notice you and respect you. Most people are so used to loud mouthed, boisterous women and young girls, that, when they look at you, and you are of a gentle and quiet spirit, they will be like, okay, wow! I've never seen any girl act like this before!
I just want you to know that, you can make a HUGE difference in the world just by the way you act and by the light of Christ that radiates through your face. By the way you live your life, by the way you talk, walk and dress you are preaching to others a message of purity. Now, do I mean walking around in a long, pioneer-style dress and not wearing those cute, stylish clothes? No way!!!
You can still dress in the cute, stylish and fun way you like, but be careful to stay as close as you can to modesty. God LOVES modesty, and He wants you to love it too. If you truly love God, you will try to love what He loves. If it's hard, ask for strength, He will give it to you. So try to love dressing modestly because you love God and you love to please Him. Operate out of love, not works, when you are motivated by love, you will always do more than you will operating out of works. Don't try to fit in with everyone, besides, why fit in when you were born so stand out?!
